FOUNDATION FOR
ISLAMIC KNOWLEDGE
KNOWLEDGE
|
Islam
emphasizes the importance of knowledge to all man- kind. It is only
through true knowledge that one can appreciate the Creator of the Universe
namely Allah (swt). Muslims are ordained to seek knowledge from cradle to
grave and as far as a person can to obtain it.
In as much as seeking knowledge is a must
on every Muslim, dissemination of knowledge is also incumbent on Muslims
to the members of the society. The methods of disseminating the
information should be lawful, as well as the truth is to be released to
everyone. Hiding or keeping the true knowledge away from those who seek
it, is considered a sin.
The best investment for every human being
is through: perpetual charity (Sadaqa Jariya), useful knowledge that
people shall benefit or, and a loving child who shall make special prayers
for his/her parents.

KNOWLEDGE IN THE

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) emphasized ‘ILM
tremendously and encouraged Muslims to seek knowledge in any part of the
world. The following is a summary:
|
1. In one Hadith the Prophet says: “The Knowledgeable people (‘Ulama)
are the inheritors to the Prophets.”
2. In another Hadith He encouraged Muslims to seek knowledge, saying:
“Seeking knowledge is a must on every Muslim.”
3. In another place, He demanded that knowledge is to be sought
throughout lifetime, saying: “Seek knowledge from cradle to grave.”
4. Knowledge is to be disseminated to all, and the best knowledge is
that of the Qur’an, saying: “The best amongst you are the ones who learn
Qur’an and teach it to others.”
5. Knowledge is to be taught and to be carried on even after death. In
His Hadith the Prophet said: “When a person dies, his deeds are over,
except from three things; perpetual charity, a useful knowledge, or a good
child who makes supplications for him.”
